Outdoor Exhibits in Ijikacho

Ijikacho is located in the south of Toba city, Mie Prefecture, about 25 minutes by car from the center of Toba. About 400 people live there, in a thriving fishing community facing the Pacific Ocean. Various kinds of fishing boats of all sizes dock in the harbor, and marine products are auctioned at the market, creating a scene typical of a fisherman's town. Once you enter the village from the harbor, you will see rows of houses along the steep slope, with narrow stairs and alleys, creating a unique maze-like village landscape. Paintings were created on the walls of the ama hut facing the main street of Ijika Fishing Port. The motifs include the colors of the sea, divers, flowers and birds.
